Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Sergey Karakhanyan ("bytemail", "we"), the developer of the bytemail app for macOS and operator of bytemailapp.com. By downloading or using the app or this website you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use bytemail.

1. The app

bytemail is a mail client that runs on your Mac and connects directly to mail accounts you add. We do not provide a mail service, mailbox hosting or message relay. Your mail provider remains responsible for your mailbox, and your use of that account remains subject to your provider's terms.

2. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use bytemail on Macs that you own or control, for personal or business use. You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app, remove its notices, or use our name and marks without permission. Reverse engineering is not permitted except where the law expressly allows it. Open-source components included in the app remain under their own licences.

3. Features and backups

We keep improving bytemail, so features may change, be added or be removed over time. Some features depend on your Mac — Apple Intelligence features need macOS 26 and a Mac that supports Apple Intelligence, and iCloud settings sync needs an iCloud account. Keep independent backups of anything important; your mail provider's copy of your mailbox is the source of truth.

4. Your responsibilities

• Use bytemail only with accounts you are authorised to access.
• Do not use it to send spam, malware or unlawful content, or to violate anyone's rights or your provider's policies.
• Keep your Mac, macOS user account and Keychain secure; anyone with access to them may be able to read your mail.
• You are responsible for the messages you send and the actions you take in your mailboxes, including deletions.

5. Third-party services

Signing in with Microsoft, connecting to any mail server, Apple's on-device model and iCloud involve services we do not control. Their availability, limits and policies may change and can affect bytemail. We are not responsible for third-party services. Apple, iCloud, Apple Intelligence, Google, Gmail, Microsoft, Outlook, Yahoo and other names are trademarks of their owners; bytemail is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.

6. Privacy

How the app and this site handle data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

7. Updates

The app checks for updates and can download and install them automatically; you choose how in its settings. Some updates may be required to keep working with mail providers or to fix security issues.

8. Plans, licence keys and fees

bytemail is sold as a subscription — US$3.99 a month or US$39.90 a year — or as a lifetime licence for a one-time payment (currently US$99), each plus any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live; the price shown at checkout is what you pay. Every purchase comes with a licence key that activates the app on up to 5 devices at a time — Macs and, once it is released, iPhones alike, with the iPhone app included at no extra cost; you can move it from one device to another by deactivating the old one in the app. To check the key, the app contacts bytemailapp.com as described in the Privacy Policy.

Free trial. A subscription starts with a 7-day free trial, one per person. A payment method is taken when the trial starts and the first payment is charged when it ends, unless you cancel before then. Renewal and cancellation. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel any time — in the app under Settings › Licence › Manage Subscription, or on link.com — and the app keeps working until the end of the period already paid for. If a renewal payment fails and can't be collected, the subscription ends. Lifetime. A lifetime licence is paid once, has no renewal, and does not expire; "lifetime" means for as long as bytemail is offered and maintained.

Payments are handled by Stripe. Stripe, through Link, is the merchant of record for the sale: it takes the payment, charges and remits the tax, sends your receipt, and its name appears on your statement. We never see your card details.

Refunds. If something isn't right, write to hello@bytemailapp.com from the address you bought with. A refunded purchase's licence key stops working. Any statutory right of withdrawal you have as a consumer applies in addition.

9. No warranty

bytemail and this website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that mail will always be delivered, synchronised or preserved.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of bytemail. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for bytemail in the twelve months before the claim, or EUR 50 if you paid nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or the statutory rights you have as a consumer.

11. Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time by removing your accounts from the app and deleting it. We may end or suspend your licence if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (licence restrictions, disclaimers, liability limits) continue to apply.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The new version will be published here with a new date; continuing to use bytemail after that means you accept it.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and may bring proceedings there.
